Morrison Gardens

The Morrison Gardens Community House (MGCH) provides place-based service in a community hub setting. We offer programs for children/youth and adults, and also run a food centre affiliated with the Ottawa Food Bank.

We are located at 985-A Morrison Drive in the West End of Ottawa.

MGCH serves two Ottawa Community Housing neighbourhoods-Morrison Gardens and Christie Place, which supports over 200 families. We also provide a food centre, that is accessible to all who reside within our wider food bank catchment area.

Children/Youth:

Our Community House offers an after-school program, and tutoring throughout the school year. In the summer, we run a 6-week camp program for those in our immediate communities. We also offer a variety of social and recreational activities for children, special events, and family excursions. When space is available, we also offer these programs to children who reside close to our neighbourhood.

Our youth have access to the Pathways to Education program (Grade 9-12), and we have recently partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa to offer bi-weekly evening programs for youth (13-18). We support students who require volunteer hours for high school, and have opportunities throughout the year.

Adults/Seniors:

We provide opportunities for community members to come together to get to know their neighbours, to learn skills, and gain a sense of belonging and wellbeing. We run a weekly lunch program, and coffee & conversation program during the school year. When funding allows, we extend our adult engagement and community-building opportunities to include game nights, art programs, and wellness workshops.

We host large outdoor community celebrations throughout the year, as these gatherings help people feel more connected and less isolated.

During moments of crisis and natural disaster, we provide coordination and guidance, and help lead the emergency response.  When there is violence and tragedy in the community, we are a safe, stable, trusted haven, present onsite immediately with Ottawa Community Housing and other key partners to provide support and referrals of all kinds.

Through our programs and daily interactions with the community, we develop strong relationships that are built over many years.

We are deeply embedded in the community, both in terms of our location, and the social connections we have created with community members. We know the community well and are positioned to provide individualized, appropriate support, and connect people with the services that they need. The MGCH team offers wrap-around supports: we make referrals and let the community know about the beneficial services and resources available to them.
